Review: Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum

I have coveted Vitamin C serums for the last five years, it is the first skincare step I introduced to my routine where I noticed a drastic difference & I still notice a difference when this type of product is missing from my regimen all these years later. I have already tried a few duds this year, like Seoul Ceuticals; so I began eagerly eyeballing this Vitamin C serum from Purito in hopes it would be different. Brand Purito is a relatively new Korean-based company, they are cruelty-free & their natural ingredients emphasize the 10-Free Skincare Ingredient Philosophy: No parabens, ethanol, surfactants, artificial coloring, fragrance, triethanolamine, phthalein, triclosan, petrochemicals or benzoyl peroxide. The company attempts to reduce their carbon footprint by minimizing cosmetic packaging & it is produced from eco-friendly materials. Product Claims Here are the advertised claims from Purito’s website: The balance of natural ingredients makes it safe & suitable for all skin types. The ingredient help soothe & smooth blemishes. It builds collagen, diminishes fine lines & wrinkles, lightens age spots, minimizes pores, …

Review: Tosowoong Time Shift First Essence

This essence has stood the test of time, continually trending as one of South Korea’s most popular essence waters on the market. I have been seeking a replacement to my discontinued Holy Grail [Still bitter about that, Missha] so I was held out hope this Tosowoong product from their Time Shift line would be “the one” to make me swoon. Awful pun intended. Brand Tosowoong is a South Korean cosmetic brand that launched in 2004. It quickly became a cult favorite brand, producing botanical based products with a reputation for whitening & anti-aging benefits. The brand initially became known for luxury cosmetics, but their affordable product lines have had commercialized success in recent years. Product Claims I struggled to find this product on a brand website where I prefer to gather advertising information, but here are the product claims from Jolse: Black Yeast Ferment Filtrate contains full of Beta-Glucan which improves skin condition. It protects the skin from outer harmful factors and keeps skin moist and soft with intense moisture. Functional essence for Whitening and …

Review: Seoul Ceuticals Day Glow Serum – 20% Vitamin C

I have recently returned to the birthplace of baguettes from an impromptu visit to my sweet home, Chicago. It would not be a trip home without a few consumer indulgences, which is how I ended up with this little vial of Vitamin C. It was a quick trip so I let my shopping senses take the lead without doing as much research into products or brands as I like to do when time allows. This Seoul Ceuticals review took some unexpected turns as I began researching the product, the real question is where to even begin! Brand If you have followed my blog for any length of time, I try to be an active consumer & use my purchasing power as I see wisely. I will pay higher price tags for products from brands like Amore Pacific that do a lot of social good, I do not buy from brands like L’Oreal that have made past mistakes & have not done enough to compensate for it to earn my favor or money. Seoul Ceuticals is …

Review: Innisfree Jeju Bija Anti-Trouble Cleansing Gel

I have just come around to testing this cult classic cleanser. While cleansing is not the most exciting step of a skincare routine, this cleanser always seemed particularly lackluster for me. However, only trial can prove if this bija is bae or bust. Brand Innisfree is a South Korean company that launched in 2000. Their products are focused on natural ingredients & also one of the only Korean cosmetic companies that is ECOCERT certified, an organic & free trade certification. The company is also involved in local socially conscious efforts that can be done by anyone, such as promoting recycling cosmetic containers & selling handkerchiefs as an alternative to disposable tissues. I do prefer to see more global efforts & corporate transparency from such a big brand, but Innisfree’s parent company is AmorePacific & I have rambled many times about all their great efforts to make the world a better place. Routine Placement The is a water-based cleanser that could be used in AM & PM skincare routine. It would be used as the second …

Review: It’s Skin Green Tea Watery Emulsion

While I have enjoyed recently introducing an emulsion skincare step in my routine, I have struggled with finding just the right product. I found this contender when searching for something lighter & less fragrant than the previously tested Goodal. Complete with the additional benefits of green tea? Yes, please! Brand I was unable to find an abundance of information on It’s Skin as a company. I am unaware when they launched, but they merged with Hanbul Cosmetics in May 2017 to advance its position on the Chinese marketplace. It’s Skin markets it brand concept as Clinical + Skin + Solution, the brand’s research to create optimal formulas for every skin type. Routine Placement There are different recommendations for routine order depending on the source.  Some product instructions will say this product step is a “preparation treatment” for essences & serums so it would be applied after toners & before any other products. I personally place emulsions towards the end of my skincare routine. My routine is ordered from watery-to-thick products, exception being anti-aging or chemical …

The 3rd Annual Skincare Dundies: Stud & Dud Cosmetics of 2017

This year has been different for me in a variety of different ways, including skincare. I was not nearly as experimental with new products, I found myself returning to cosmetics that were familiar & loved. I minimized my routine, not even bothering with it some of the time. I took a different approach to the 2017 Skincare Dundies, it will not be as extensive or feature the latest cosmetics as in years past. The focus will shift to my absolute tried & true favorite cosmetics of each category, accompanied by the most loathed product I have ever slathered on my face. Let’s try something new together, shall we? Oil Cleansers Loved: Tosowoong Apricot Seed Cleansing Oil This cleanser was included in one of my very first blog posts nearly three years ago now, that’s hard for me to even believe. I praised it highly in a post where I compared multiple oil cleansers, however this year was the first time I had repurchased it in quite some time & I am questioning why I had …

Review: Tosowoong Natural Pure Apricot Seed Cleansing Oil

This was a year I avoided uncertainty, I returned to cosmetics I previously loved as if it were an archaic migration pattern. I rediscovered products I loved, occasionally found flaws in previously cherished oldies as I had found better alternatives over the years. However, this product made me wonder why had I not repurchased this sooner? Tosowoong is a South Korean cosmetic brand that launched in 2004. It quickly became a cult favorite brand, producing botanical based products with a reputation for whitening & anti-aging benefits. The brand initially became known for luxury products, but their affordable product lines have had commercialized success in recent years. Routine Placement Oil cleansers are the very first step of a skincare routine, followed immediately by the secondary water-based cleanser as part of the Double Cleansing Method. Double cleansing is intended to be done once a day, otherwise it can be stripping to the skin. Product Claims It seems like it is always cleansing products that have the most striking claims. While I like this cleanser & I am …
