Review: Goodal Double Bright Emulsion

I avoided ever using an emulsion, even years after I was a full-fledged skincare addict. I thought it was just a light moisturizer that you put on before a thicker moisturizer at night. It seemed a bit redundant to me, especially if you already use a good moisturizer in your night-time routine… But I was so wrong. I decided to try emulsions after two of my skincare-addicted friends swore by this step & now I could not imagine my skincare routine without it! While I am new to emulsions, I still feel like the Goodal Double Bright Emulsion was one of the best options I could have chosen. Goodal’s name is derived from English “Good + All” as the brand tries to develop products with “all good” ingredients. Their products are known for having fermented ingredients, restoring radiance & vitality to the skin. Goodal is owned by Club Clio, a company that was established in 1993 & known for their makeup products. Goodal is typically associated with the “natural cosmetics” trend & their products are known …

Review: Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Facial Cleanser

My mission for the perfect non-foaming cleanser seems to be a never-ending journey. I swore off foaming cleansers due to my skin feeling stripped & irritated after use; but it would seem that the trifecta of non-drying, pH balanced & good ingredient list for cleansers is non-existent. CeraVe Hydrating failed me with the filmy residue. Innisfree Anti-Trouble Gel lacked the strength to even remove the oil of my first cleanser. Sum37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick burned my eyes, both literally and the high price tag. Then my journey led me to this: The Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Cleanser. I had hope again for the perfect cleanser. Hada Labo is Japanese company that started in 2004, the brand name translating to “Skin Lab”. Their skincare lines emphasize hydration with Hyaluronic Acid being a key ingredient for all their products, a naturally occurring compound that attracts & binds water agents. The company is owned by Rhoto Labratories, which is a leader in Japanese cosmetic development; but unfortunately is not as corporately transparent or as sustainably oriented as I like …

Skincare Horror Story [Review] Time: OST Pure Vitamin C21.5 Advanced Serum

Let me set the scene! It is a Monday morning, which is scary enough in itself. I hit the alarm snooze button at least three times before I begrudgingly drag myself to the washroom to begin my morning prep. In the spirit of true laziness, my AM skincare routine is minimalistic with nothing requiring wait times: Cleanser moisturizer & sunscreen. Done. Nothing seems out of the ordinary besides the additional crabbiness that is usually associated with Mondays until I go to pump cleanser into my hands… Something is wrong with them. I figure my sleep blurred vision is playing tricks on me under the harsh, neon light. However, my eyesight adjusts & I try to claw the orange stigmata off my hands when I realize this is no trick. My palms & fingers are stained as if I did an extremely poor job with self-tanner. I grab my body scrub from the shower push the coarse grains against the stain, but the orange will not leave my body. I stare utterly confused into the sink …

The 2015 Favorites: First Annual Skincare Choice Dundies

Anyone else feeling the Starfish Lord & Snail Gods in this Chili’s tonight? Now that we have confirmed I have watched far too many reruns of The Office, let us get on to the topic of tonight: Skincare. I have been indulging in skincare for a few years now, it has been a long journey of product hoarding & error. I feel like this year was the first time I finally began grasping everything: The scientific research & ingredients, budgeting, made some great friends in the community, and discovered products that actually work. So I decided to close out the year 2015 by honoring some of my favorites for dry skin, Michael Scott style! You’ll laugh, you might cringe, and you’re wallet will definitely cry after realizing all the pretty skincare things you cannot live without in 2016! Best Oil-Based Cleanser Runner-Up: Kose Deep Cleansing Oil This is the most economical [Cost effective per ounce] oil cleanser I have ever used, but that is not the main feature that makes this oil cleanser attractive. It …
