Review: Aritaum Aloe No Wash Cleansing Water

I have met many cleansing waters I do not like in my search for perfection. I already have a Holy Grail in this cosmetic category, the cult classic Bioderma Sensibo H2O Micellar Solution. That has never stopped me from wandering & trying others though, which is why this Aritaum cleansing water caught my attention. Brand Aritaum is a South Korean brand established in 2008, their parent company is Amore Pacific. The brand preaches more than just superficial beauty, they believe in self-care & offer a full range of cosmetics to care for the entire body. Aritaum has recently made headlines as being part of the trending preservative-free movement. I could not find any information of Aritaum’s social or charitable efforts, but Amore Pacific is active in environmental conservation & promoting female leadership. However, Aritaum franchise owners in North America have filed formal complaints with The Federal Trade Commision [USA Government Agency] against their parent company for anti-trust violations, which Aritaum alleges their parent company pushes an unreasonable financial burden onto individual shops. Review: Seoul Ceuticals Day Glow Serum – 20% Vitamin C

I have recently returned to the birthplace of baguettes from an impromptu visit to my sweet home, Chicago. It would not be a trip home without a few consumer indulgences, which is how I ended up with this little vial of Vitamin C. It was a quick trip so I let my shopping senses take the lead without doing as much research into products or brands as I like to do when time allows. This Seoul Ceuticals review took some unexpected turns as I began researching the product, the real question is where to even begin! Brand If you have followed my blog for any length of time, I try to be an active consumer & use my purchasing power as I see wisely. I will pay higher price tags for products from brands like Amore Pacific that do a lot of social good, I do not buy from brands like L’Oreal that have made past mistakes & have not done enough to compensate for it to earn my favor or money. Seoul Ceuticals is …

Review: Innisfree Jeju Bija Anti-Trouble Cleansing Gel

I have just come around to testing this cult classic cleanser. While cleansing is not the most exciting step of a skincare routine, this cleanser always seemed particularly lackluster for me. However, only trial can prove if this bija is bae or bust. Brand Innisfree is a South Korean company that launched in 2000. Their products are focused on natural ingredients & also one of the only Korean cosmetic companies that is ECOCERT certified, an organic & free trade certification. The company is also involved in local socially conscious efforts that can be done by anyone, such as promoting recycling cosmetic containers & selling handkerchiefs as an alternative to disposable tissues. I do prefer to see more global efforts & corporate transparency from such a big brand, but Innisfree’s parent company is AmorePacific & I have rambled many times about all their great efforts to make the world a better place. Routine Placement The is a water-based cleanser that could be used in AM & PM skincare routine. It would be used as the second …

The 3rd Annual Skincare Dundies: Stud & Dud Cosmetics of 2017

This year has been different for me in a variety of different ways, including skincare. I was not nearly as experimental with new products, I found myself returning to cosmetics that were familiar & loved. I minimized my routine, not even bothering with it some of the time. I took a different approach to the 2017 Skincare Dundies, it will not be as extensive or feature the latest cosmetics as in years past. The focus will shift to my absolute tried & true favorite cosmetics of each category, accompanied by the most loathed product I have ever slathered on my face. Let’s try something new together, shall we? Oil Cleansers Loved: Tosowoong Apricot Seed Cleansing Oil This cleanser was included in one of my very first blog posts nearly three years ago now, that’s hard for me to even believe. I praised it highly in a post where I compared multiple oil cleansers, however this year was the first time I had repurchased it in quite some time & I am questioning why I had …

Review: Tosowoong Natural Pure Apricot Seed Cleansing Oil

This was a year I avoided uncertainty, I returned to cosmetics I previously loved as if it were an archaic migration pattern. I rediscovered products I loved, occasionally found flaws in previously cherished oldies as I had found better alternatives over the years. However, this product made me wonder why had I not repurchased this sooner? Tosowoong is a South Korean cosmetic brand that launched in 2004. It quickly became a cult favorite brand, producing botanical based products with a reputation for whitening & anti-aging benefits. The brand initially became known for luxury products, but their affordable product lines have had commercialized success in recent years. Routine Placement Oil cleansers are the very first step of a skincare routine, followed immediately by the secondary water-based cleanser as part of the Double Cleansing Method. Double cleansing is intended to be done once a day, otherwise it can be stripping to the skin. Product Claims It seems like it is always cleansing products that have the most striking claims. While I like this cleanser & I am …

You Had Me at Aloe: A K-Beauty Aloe Gel Comparison

While aloe is considered a summertime favorite, it is a staple cosmetic for many K-pop idols & beauty gurus. I recently introduced aloe gel into my daily regimen as a replacement for traditional body lotions, but I have always had an aloe plant or cosmetic tub of the gooey stuff on hand. My mum is a redhead that seemingly gets a sunburn if she glances outside & I had a fascination with the oven as a kid so enough said! If you’re unfamiliar with this desert plant, the smooth leaves with a spiny ridge are fragile along their centers. The leaves crack easily, oozing a slimy & watery gel from inside. Aloe is a well researched ingredient & historically used through various cultures. It provides soothing medicinal benefits for skin irritations or burns, it provides some antibacterial advantages as well. Aloe vera’s main claim to cosmetic fame is it hydration properties because the ingredient is 99.5% water. The Products When I began using aloe as an overall body gel last spring, I would purchase an …

Review: Nature Republic Hawaiian Deep Sea Cleansing Oil to Foam

As a reintroduction to my blog after a long hiatus, it seems only fitting to go back to my basics: Playing with Korean cosmetics. A few months ago I visited my homeland of Chicago & indulged in more than a few consumerism splurges I cannot get abroad: Bath & Body Works, Walgreens, Ulta, etc. A newfound cosmetic from the aisles of Target turned out to be one of my favorite purchases from the trip, it is the beloved & popularized Sonia Kashuk Facial Cleanser Dissolving Gel to Oil Makeup Remover. It was a dark day in the French Riviera when I finally used the entirety of that cleanser. Western & Eastern cosmetic trends are not typically aligned so I was surprised to find an all-in-one product from a country that popularized the multi-step skincare routine. I have to try it, obviously! Nature Republic is a South Korean cosmetic company created in 2009. The brand’s tagline is A Sense of the Beginning with an emphasis on utilizing natural ingredients in their products. A controversy occurred when …
